Physical Dependence

  • A smoker's addiction to nicotine will affect their capability to quit and create a physical dependence to smoking.
  • Cigarettes deliver a fast-acting hit of nicotine to the brain in as little as 7 seconds.
  • Rapid excretion of nicotine from the body causes withdrawal symptoms, which are quickly relieved by smoking, and this reinforces someone’s dependence.
  • Nicotine encourages the release of dopamine, providing the satisfaction related with smoking, and maintaining the nicotine addiction cycle.
