Advise client that receiving NRT alone will not help their chances of quitting successfully - stopping smoking is both a physical and psychological battle, and without coping strategies to help deal with cravings, the client will not be well equipped to battle through withdrawal.
Remind client that combination of behavioural support and pharmacotherapy increases chances of quitting by 3 times in comparison to cold turkey.
Build on rapport and trust with client – reinforce idea that you are here to help, strengthen and guide them to becoming smokefree by using effective communication skills.
