Encourage openness and transparency with close friends and family- let significant others know of quit attempt and ask them to be respectful (e.g. smoking out of view).
Limit alcohol intake – alcohol increases disinhibition and decreases impulse control, making dealing with urges to smoke a lot harder.
Plan ahead - be aware of possible triggers and upcoming high risk events, and encourage client to work with you as the advisor to come up with useful strategies to avoid setbacks (e.g. having short acting NRT to hand).
