Stop Smoking Treatments

Three drugs are currently licensed with the Medicine Healthcare Regulation Agency (MHRA) for use in supporting smoking cessation:

  • Nicotine Replacement Therapy (General Sales Licence – all products)
  • Varenicline/ Champix (Prescription only)* CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE
  • Bupropion/Zyban (Prescription only)
  • Cytisine (prescription only)

Dosing:

  • Combination NRT should be offered as first line treatment to all clients.
  • All clients should be supported to take enough medication for a long enough period of time (12 weeks Standard Treatment Programme).
