This table demonstrates some general guidance which can be used by advisors when deciding on which forms of nicotine replacement therapy to prescribe a client. Cigarettes per day can be a useful initial indicator as to how dependent a client is on nicotine, and therefore which product types are better suited.
Please note that this is just a guide, and you must look at each client on a case by case basis. For example, someone who is smoking under 10 cigarettes per day may need a lower strength patch as well as a short acting product.
